Energizing Masala
In Ayurveda, the spring equinox marks the beginning of the Kapha season as the world slowly comes out of hibernation. This transition is apparent in nature as the winter snows begin to melt, releasing their energy into plants, trees, and humans. It’s an important time to cleanse and detoxify, make new intentions, and plant seeds to ensure this vital energy is focused toward your future crops, creative projects and dreams.
However, as water and earth combine to create new life, one can literally and figuratively get stuck in the mud. Kapha dosha is aggravated by qualities that are heavy, moist and cold; therefore, an important factor in not aggravating kapha dosha in the spring is to invite in light, warm, dry qualities through spices.
My energizing spice blend melds heating spices such as cumin, ginger, turmeric, peppercorns and cinnamon to help with digestion and inflammation as well with the cooling spice of coriander which helps detoxify the liver.
I also included some speciality spices such as fenugreek which helps reduce appetite and fat, ajwain seeds which provide instant relief from colds and expel cough and mucus from the body and cardamom which helps balance blood sugar
